Wigs are transformative. Few tools in art are as personal, as powerful, or as demanding as wigs and facial hair. A well-made, well-maintained and properly-suited wig is a sublime character and narrative tool. Yet, very few people think about the intricate complexity, brilliant artistry and supreme craftpersonship that underlies this discipline.
In this highly practical workshop, Guthrie Theater Wig Master Laura Adams and Wig Designer Jess Rau will teach core skills and ideas that are the foundational basis of this amazing art and trade.
This intermediate level workshop will walk you through the magic of making a store-bought wig into something you can use on the stage. Participants will focus on learning how to set and comb out wigs to create period specific styles.
Participants will have plenty of hands-on time, during which they will learn:
The anatomy of a store-bought wig.
Proper blocking techniques.
How to attach a lace front to a store-bought wig.
Basic thermal and wet roller sets.
This is an intermediate level class and builds upon the Wigs I: Learning the Basics class. While participation in that workshop is not required, it will be assumed that you know the following:
The basics of the design process, including research.
How to do wig preps, before a wig is worn.
How to make a mold of an actor’s head.
Not knowing the above will hinder you from truly benefitting from this workshop.
This is a One-Day Workshop.
Saturday August 25th, 9am - 3:45pm.

With this support we are able to offer this workshop for only $75, approximately 30% of typical cost.
