Wardrobe crews are the great unsung heroes of the theater.
Split-second costume change? Wardrobe.
Pants need a fix in the middle of a show? Wardrobe.
Nine show week and your clothes still smell like a spring breeze? Wardrobe.
Two show day and your wig still looks fantastic and feels comfortable? Wardrobe.
In this 6-hour workshop, Guthrie Theater Wardrobe Supervisor Amber Brown and Wardrobe Crewperson Paul Bigot will cover all the essentials of being one of the most hands-on and employable of the crews who actually run the shows.
You’ll learn tips and tricks for quick gotta-happen-now repairs during a show, how to set up and manage quick change stations and dressing rooms, and how to do quick changes for men’s and women’s clothing. You’ll also get hands-on time with techniques and skills for maintenance between shows: longer lasting repairs for common issues, the basics of machine sewing, pressing & steaming for theater costumes (which isn’t quite the same as your own clothes!) and garment care.
You’ll get a brief introduction to wigs, but this workshop’s primary focus is costumes. When you’re done, you should be ready to give it a go!
