Do you want to or are you already operating and maintaining lighting in shows? Looking to learn more about how modern theatrical lighting works?
Whether you’re interested in really getting into lighting, or you just want to know the basics of setting up, maintaining and running a show, this is the perfect class for you!
Join top local Lighting Designer Karin Olson and Guthrie Lead Lighting Programmer Stephanie Richards for a very hands-on, do-it-yourself and fun class covering the core of what most lighting operators and technicians spend the bulk of their time doing.
When you’re done, you’ll be able to:
Troubleshoot the most common lighting problems encountered in a show run.
Identify likely problems in lighting set-ups and how to navigate them.
Manage problems with common devices such as dimmer packs, I-Cues, DMX Irises, Scrollers and LEDs.
Read a channel hookup.
Perform both a lamp check and a channel check and know when each is appropriate.
Understand the basics of DMX and how to troubleshoot it.
Set up a basic lighting control system and understand the core concepts behind programming.
At this point, you’ll be well-equipped to handle being the lighting operator for most shows, and well on your way to being an excellent lighting technician!
Normally a $200 cost (Instructors, space rental, materials, insurance), generous funding from the MN State Arts Board via the Clean Water Land and Legacy Amendment allows us to present this at $80. Scholarships are available- Contact Laura at firstname.lastname@example.org to apply.
