Concept Design and Producing: Hey, Waiter! There's a Bar in my Theater!
Instructor: John Bueche
October 20th 1-3PM
October 21st 1-3PM
THIS IS A TWO-DAY WORKSHOP!
Come discuss flexible, adaptive design development for theater and performing arts with Bedlam Artistic Director John Bueche. Pick apart different kinds of venues and performing arts experiences from immersive installation pieces to traditional prosceniums; from amphitheaters to indoor arenas; from bonfires to black boxes. Sitting in Bedlam's own new performance club at Lowertown, discuss, brainstorm and develop ideas and concepts on how traditional, non-traditional and now-out-of-vogue spaces can and should be used and learn how at least one veteran professional scenic designer conceptualizes space and people in his designs and productions... and how you can too. Ideas come and ideas go, often unbidden. Come participate in a workshop on working with what you've got: the intersection of concept and context. Learn about how to work with ideas collaboratively and in a group, how to turn unexpected imagination into a coherent vision, how to utilize the resources at hand - budgets, found vs bought materials, personnel and other, equally important but often overlooked considerations!
$40 for the whole workshop! Originally costing $150, this amazing value is made possible by generous funding by the MN State Arts Board via the Clean Water Land & Legacy Amendment.
