Design in Sketchup, Draft in Vectorworks!

Sketchup offers a quick way to visualize and test your models for theater scenic design;  Vectorworks offers the industry standard in drafting.  Mash the two together and you have the best of both worlds!

Learn how to make your Sketchup models shine with walk-throughs, venue modeling, and even virtual lighting.  Then, translate your model into Vectorworks and learn how to use it to create drafting and shop drawings.

The apprenticeship will be integrated into the design process of one of our upcoming shows at Old Log Theater in Excelsior, MN, which could be Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, or Charlottes’ Web.

The sessions will be lead by Erik Paulson, resident Technical Director and Designer, with over 15 years of experience creating scenery for theatre.  Availability is now until June and the timeframe could be tailored to your availability and would amount to 25-30 hours of time at Old Log.

Scenic Design and Painting from Concept through Opening Night

Work with seasoned Twin Cities scenic designer Erica Zafferano at Bloomington Civic Theater on their upcoming production of "Hairspray". Erica would love to share her design process, how to deal with budgets, a production meeting, basic drafting, work via paint elevations, painting techniques and shortcuts, and how to work with volunteers.

There will be quite a lot of hands-on painting, so there will be plenty of practice!

Apprentice will also receive tickets for the show to see the fruits of his/her labor. Time frame begins at the end of June with the bulk of the work happening during the month of July and through to opening on August 14.  The 25- 30 hours are really flexible and could be determined by the schedule of the apprentice.
